Beginners Self-Defence Course

This 10 week introductory course focuses on various self-defence techniques which form the basis of many Aikido classes.

When: Sunday's 10am-12pm

Price: £100 (includes uniform, white belt, annual club insurance fee and club member book)

Week 1
 
Shomen Uchi (‘straight strike to the head') - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Yonkyo
 
Week 2
 
Yokomen Uchi (’roundhouse strike to the head’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Shiho Nage, Kote Gaeshi
 
Week 3
 
Katate Dori (‘wrist grab’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Kokyu Nage
 
Week 4
 
Kosadori (‘opposite wrist grab’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Kote Gaeshi
 
Week 5 / Short Review of Weeks 1-5
 
Ryote Dori (‘both wrists grabbed’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Tenchi Nage
 
Week 6
 
Mune Tsuki (’punch to body’) - Kote Gaeshi, Sumi O Toshi, Kokyu Nage
 
Week 7
 
Kata Dori (‘arm grab’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Yonkyo
 
Week 8 
 
Mune Dori ('grabbed by the lapels') - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Yonkyo
 
Week 9 
 
Ryo Katedori (‘both arms grabbed’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Yonkyo

Ushiro Ryo Katate Dori  (‘grabbed by both wrists from behind’) - Ikyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Juji Nage

 

Syllabus

All lessons are based around the Iwama Takemusu Aikido grading syllabus. Gradings are held regularly, depending on when students are ready to progress to their next belt.
